2 Peer Review

One of the most collaborative aspects of preprints is open peer review. Here are some of the benefits of open peer review according to ASAPbio:

Icon of a document with PREPRINT written on it, featuring horizontal lines representing text. A large eye graphic overlaps the lower-right corner, suggesting review or examination of the document.

Provide readers with additional context on preprints, pointing out strengths, weaknesses, and unanswered questions.

Enable reuse of peer reviews, thereby reducing burden on editors and reviewers.

Bring discussions into the public domain, where readers can enrich the conversation with diverse expertise.

Surface the work of reviewers to a broader audience, promoting greater recognition for this important work.

Catalyze a culture of open commenting on preprints by surfacing hidden conversation.

Anyone can become a peer reviewer!  PREreview is a community that supports giving preprints constructive feedback through collaboration. Reviewers can select a preprint they would like to review and submit as many comments as they would like. This is a great opportunity for students too. Does your institution already have a Hypothes.is account? You can use that extension to have students give group annotations!  Here are some guidelines from ASAPbio on getting started: Where To Go To Do Open Review – ASAPbio
